Performance at NEOLUNAR, Fort Mason Firehouse, San Francisco, CA
In Nüshu, the ancient, secret women's script of Hunan, women wrote their sorrows and prayers to one another in flowing strokes resembling flames. Prayer Poem to the Phoenix Goddess invokes the phoenix descending, dragons turning in water, incense rising, and a young woman stepping forward. The script that was once hidden is now illuminated, like the Fire Horse itself — wild, luminous, finally free.
